Yesterday’s strongest signal was not inside the system. It was outside it.
Anthropic’s own numbers say Claude is now writing most of the code merged into its codebase. Engineers are shipping far more than they were a year ago. Open-ended task success moved hard in six months.
If that slope is real, the bottleneck has already moved.
The hard part is no longer getting competent output on demand. The hard part is deciding what gets trusted, what gets reviewed, what stays sandboxed, what gets promoted into memory, and how much operational mess leaks onto the human.
That is where the thesis sits this morning.
A serious agent or memory product is a control system wrapped around fast generation. Permissions. Provenance. Review. Repair loops. Audience boundaries. Quiet recovery.
Once the model is good enough, raw fluency gets cheap.
The expensive part starts after the model becomes useful.
